Facts<\/h2>\n

Studies have proved that a prolonged exposure to this type of light can cause serious – even irreversible – damage to our eyes. And, sadly, computer screens are not the only source of blue light. Blue light<\/a> is present in several artificial lighting sources such as digital screens like televisions, tablets and smartphones. It can even be found in natural sources such as sunlight.<\/p>\n

Consequences<\/h2>\n

Even though short-term exposure without eyeglasses<\/a> will cause visual discomfort or fatigue, long-term exposure can accelerate and aggravate conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and cataracts<\/a>. Aside from ocular health, blue light has a detrimental effect on sleep and can cause problems such as insomnia.<\/p>\n

Solutions<\/h2>\n

Limit the time spent in front of screens\u00a0<\/strong>–\u00a0<\/strong>Avoid using your tablet or any other screen before going to sleep and, more importantly, do not spend more than two consecutive hours in front of a digital screen.<\/p>\n

Adopt healthy habits<\/strong>\u00a0– When you work in front of a computer screen (or any other type of digital screen), maintain a safe distance (around 60 cm) and decrease its brightness to minimize glare. In addition, blink more often. Practice the 20\/20\/20 rule: take a break each 20 minutes and look at 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds. This helps reduce eye dryness and fatigue.<\/p>\n
